Diane Ravitch is a Research Professor of Education at New York University and a historian of education. She is also the Founder and President of the Network for Public Education.
Recently Ravitch published an article stating her belief that parents should be subjected to test and in-home inspections to see if they are qualified to teach their children.
The ironies in her article are astounding.
First, academia wants to do away with testing. They don’t want to test teachers or students. Yet, when it comes to those outside of academia, they want to require testing? Incredible. Routinely academia lowers the standards for students. And when they aren’t lowering the standards, they threaten to lower the standards, particularly for minorities.
Second, doesn’t Ravitch have enough to concern herself with public school children? At all levels, students are failing. Yet, academia is getting paid.
SEE suggests that Ravitch clean up her own house, before criticizing those of others.
